New Soda Vending Machines Will Display Calorie Counts | Zagat Blog

Some major soda slingers are rolling out new vending machines that will display calorie counts to consumers sometime in the next year. (NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg is gonna love this one!) From the release: "The American Beverage Association, which represents Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc. and Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc., said that the machines will increase the availability of lower-calorie drinks and remind consumers to consider alternatives with messages such as "Try a Low-Calorie Beverage." (Hmm, so every time you order a regular soda, will the machine write out a message like: "you're fat?") The machines will roll out in municipal buildings in Chicago and San Antonio in 2013 before launching nationally. What do you think about this new technology? Let us know in the comments. [via AP]
